How it works ๐Ÿ’ก

Step 1 -

Give students the card deck and some workspace. They watch a short introduction video and get to work!

Step 2 -

Using the cards, students work through the unfolding care of a patient, gather assessment data, make decisions, decide on interventions and evaluate care - just like the CJMM.

Step 3 -

A complete instructor guide accompanies the deck and gives you answer rationale, ideas to increase application, and debriefing discussion points for each scenario.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a case study deck in my classroom?

Each deck includes everything you need to get started including an unfolding case study deck, answer key, and a debriefing guide. Simply create small groups of students, ask them to watch the welcome video included on the box, and let them work through the scenario.

Will this work if I already use lecture or other classroom activities?

Yes! These decks are designed to supplement and enhance your existing content, not replace it. Use them at the start of class to activate prior knowledge, mid-lesson for application, or as an end-of-unit review. They are supplemental materials to what you already teach.

Can I use these decks to support accreditation documentation?

Great question! I am currently working on mapping of of the current case study decks with the AACN Essentials (2021). This will help move them toward accreditation-ready rather than just โ€œaccreditation-friendly.โ€ I aim to have this documentation ready by mid-2026.

Currently, the decks can be used as artifacts for self-study reports. Programs commonly include the decks as:

  • Course learning activity exemplars
  • Curriculum maps
  • Simulation or unfolding case documentation
  • Assessment and evaluation support materials
Where can the active learning decks be used?

The decks are designed to be flexible and can be used anywhere you teach. Common uses include in the classroom, clinical post-conference, simulation debrief, lab sessions, or even online.
