They developed the CARE Framework (Context, Action, Role, Expectation) to teach effective prompt engineering. Rather than simple keywords, students should provide:

  • Context - background information
  • Action -use specific verbs like 'analyze' or 'simulate.'
  • Role - assign the AI a persona like 'experienced ICU nurse' (Role), 
  • Expectation - define strict output criteria such as 'NCLEX-style questions with rationales.'

Most nursing students lack training in AI prompting, leading to generic or inaccurate outputs. Teaching structured prompting helps minimize AI hallucinations and develops clinical decision-making skills by forcing students to articulate clinical context and desired outcomes clearly.
